Fair Haven, Vermont, chartered in 1779, is a town of less than 3,000 people noted for its late nineteenth-century architecture. But this is not what makes the town unique.
Fair Haven operates under a council–manager government with a town manager and a five-member board to supervise the local government. There is no mayor. Instead, an animal is chosen as mayor every year in a ceremonial mayoral election. In 2020, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Murfee was elected as mayor. Last month, in a race that contained nineteen candidates including dogs, cats, horses, chickens, and birds the incumbent dog mayor was reelected to a second term.

Photographer Whitney Hayes met Jayde while working on a different project. Drawn to her unabashed sense of self, they decided to embark on a project together.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Whitney Hayes is a self-taught photographer, citing photo books, photography websites and museums as her best resources when she was first starting out. Like many in her field, she has an image that’s special to her, one that made a lasting impression: an untitled piece by William Eggleston, that she saw in the Met, of a woman in a blue dress sitting on a curb. Her foray into photography first came when she started using it as a hobby to fill time after experiencing loss in her family. Shortly after her daughter was born in 2008, her father died and Whitney became her mother’s caregiver due to her mother’s early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

This seems so cool, like there is something for everyone. There s Go-Karts, Axe Throwing, and a few other fair-inspired activities. The Go-Kart track is one of the only multi-level tracks in North America according to their website. Plus there is a boat-load of fair inspired food. When we missed out on the state fair last year, that has put so many people in the mood for some fair type fun. Not only missed out on the state fair, basically all of the county fairs too. We need this.
And the fact that it is indoors is even better. No worries about the weather, and we can enjoy this all year long! And for the fun that you get, seems to be fairly affordable, well, it seems pretty comparable to normal fair prices that you would run into. And this track looks a bit more involved than a normal go-kart track that you would see outside.

The $5 billion a year exhibition industry, on its knees due to Covid-19 restrictions, has petitioned the Government for events to have the same opening rights as mega-malls have during level 2 lockdowns.
